I have been working a little each day in my room and I am making pretty good head way. Above you can see what I walked into on Monday. I always feel so overwhelmed on my first day back but slowly things start getting sorted and put back where they go or in their new spot. We had to take EVERYTHING off the walls at the end of the year so having to put them back up is not usually on my to do list during this time... but this year it had to be and lucky for me my para came in on Monday to help and she will be with me again tomorrow. She is such a huge help and I truly don't know if I could do what I do without her!! I am no where near done but here is what it looked like when I left on Monday. It is starting to resemble a classroom of sorts... :)
Here is a close up picture of my favorite new addition to my room this year... Pink Polka Dot material!!! I love it with the black border!! Thank you Hobby Lobby!!! I swear I think I could live there! I love that place!!!
I will take some more tomorrow afternoon before I leave.
I was able to go to school for a couple hours this morning. Why does time go by so fast when you have soo much to do???? My biggest accomplishment this morning was assembling my clip chart!! It still has to be laminated and of course it still needs polka dots, but here it is and I am really liking my new labels!! :)
I have had a few people ask about how I explain this to my parents and how I report daily behavior, so you can find my Discipline Policy HERE and my Monthly Behavior Chart HERE! My discipline policy is a combination of things I have found here there and everywhere and my behavior calendars are from I think the DJ Inker Kidilly Wink CD. Maybe?? I just added the behavior codes and title...thinking I may shorten that list, but can't decide. :)
Your room looks great so far!!! Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour room looks awesome!! I have been going into school the last couple of weeks off and on. I am planning on going in most of the day tomorrow to do a lot! I have to make a new clip chart, thanks for the free downloads.

You are very welcome!! :) Good luck in your room! :)
ReplyDeleteI use the clip chart with my firsties and would love to know the signals that you use with your kinders. Is there any way you can explain further? Thanks for all the great freebies!!!
ReplyDeleteThe signals I use are from wholebrainteaching.com. Go to their website and check them out!! There are also a ton of videos on YouTube about it too!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks fabulous! i am also doing the pink/black theme! Did you get the border and fabric at Hobby Lobby?

Love your explanation of the clip chart. I've always done a clip chart where they can move because of negative behaviors but this year I'm trying one out like yours. After seeing them all over the blog world, I'm excited about trying this more positive approach. Thanks for sharing!

I'm trying out the clip chart this year as well. I want to focus more on the positive behavior with my kinders. I shortened the chart and only made 5 sections. I'm going to try it and I'll revamp if it's not enough. I just want to keep it simple enough so that they can still understand it.
ReplyDeleteI love the clip chart and your room. I am so lost as to how to arrange my room this year. I wanted to do something different, but I just can't think straight. Do you have the calendars for the rest of the year?
ReplyDeleteMay I have the gestures to your rules? caboz74@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
Kindy teacher in Virginia... Year number 5!
I am also trying out the clip chart this year and am anxious to see how it will work. I would also like to know if you have the calendars for the rest of the year. They are just too cute!!

Do you have an editable version of your discipline policy?
ReplyDeleteThanks,

I love your chart! What kind of paper did you use? Construction paper? Are you going to use white acrylic paint to add polka dots? I'd like a Word version of your policy as well... dbs0786@gmail.com too if you don't mind! Love following your posts.
ReplyDeletedbso789 - I used colored card stock for this one! I hope it doesn't fade like my other one did!!! I am actually going to use white vinyl dots that I cut from my Cricut on it after it is laminated! :)
ReplyDeleteHey girl! Awesome post. I did a post a while back on classroom management, and I just updated it to include a link back to you for this section!

Also, are you aware that this chart comes pre-made in vinyl (read: indestructible and doesn't fade!) for $20? There is a link on my post if you are interested for the future.
Anyway, thanks again for the great post. Your discipline policy really helped mold my own and your behavior calendars are *too* cute!

Your classroom is looking good... I love the curtains the polka dots and pink chair. Now if only I had your talent. Thanks for sharing the pics.
ReplyDeleteI love your polka dot themed ideas!! Is your pink polka dot bulletin board really a white board covered in fabric? And if so, how did you get it to stay up?
ReplyDeleteThis particular board is not a white board but I did cover my white board with the same fabric!! I hot glued some black and white polka dot ribbon to the edges for the boarder and then I used velcro to attach it to the board. I put my weekly calendar on! I have pictures to post but I forgot my camera at school! I will post them next week!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy to feel overwhelmed, I know I always feel that way too. I love that polka dot fabric, it looks fabulous! :-)

ReplyDeleteOk so I was inspired by your clip chart and also by the "clip board" that The Voss Vine had on her blog. So I combined the two and added my own creative flair to it! Come to my blog (which is brand new, by the way!) and check out the pictures! I love your blog! :)

I love the clip chart. I have a question on how you think I could use it. I teach K-8 in Family and Consumer Sciences. I have one homeroom of each grade a week and the next week it rotates to another homeroom. I have most of the classes for 30 minutes. Any idea about how I could use the clip chart with 500 students rotating in and out each week?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the students moved their clothespin below the green, could they go back up? Thanks! Please reply to kramsarah@gmail.com
