Welcome to The Polka Dot Patch and my adventures in kindergarten! I am so happy to finally have a place where I can share all the wonderful things that are happening in my kindergarten classroom. My name is Mrs. Ashley Nichols and I have been teaching for 16 years. For the last 10 years I have taught kindergarten and have loved every minute of it! I hope you enjoy watching my students grow and learn as much as I do! Please contact me if you have any questions or comments about my class!!

ReplyDeleteHadar :)
I put up each month and then I'm going to put the kids pictures underneath with them holding up their birth date number. Also check out my birthday bags I just made!

I like to do a birthday photograph on one of my b-boards. I have all the labels printed and let the kids decorate a birthday cake die cut. We do it the first few days of school. Get to know each other by putting the cakes on the graph...plus it is a quick mini-math lesson. Wish I had a pic. :)

For my birthdays, I have fishbowls for each month with fish for each child with their names and birthdays. These are on display all year. At Dollar Tree, I got small birthday cupcake die cuts to put in my calendar so we can do countdowns and just remember the day! I also got goodie bags, bookmarks, awards, pencils, stickers, and party hats at the Dollar Store and Target Dollar Spot. The party hats are so much cheaper than the crowns! I have these all put together now. I have a birthday gift bag with the goodie bags and all my birthday read aloud books. When it is a child's birthday, I simply pull out the birthday bag, hand out the goodie bag, and the birthday child chooses our read aloud from the birthday bag. We also sing "Hey A it's your birthday. . ." by Dr. Jean as our alphabet song for the day. Whew, that was long, but I hope it helped!

ReplyDeleteI'm planning on meshing two ideas from two different blogs (clutter free classroom's birthday pictograph and Step into 2nd Grade with Mrs. Lemons' AR bulletin board) to create my new birthday display. Here's a link to the display in progress.

I'll take a picture of the kids holding up the date and then clip it under their birthday month. I'll post up the final product on my blog on Monday when I'm back in the classroom. (I'm adding polka dot trimming to my room too. Just waiting for the borders to get here.)

I made my own birthday bulletin board(I'm putting them on the cabinet actually)I have a cute little polka dot sign that says "You say it's your birthday!" And then I have polka dot signs that say "August (enter any month here) Birthdays" Then I am placing cute cupcakes with each kids Name, birthdate and a pic of them underneath. Each kid gets a birthday pencil and birthday bag.
ReplyDeleteI'll place my signs if you want to use them on my blog.

I just made these: http://bulletinboardideas.org/231/cupcake-birthday-wall/ for my birthdays! You could totally change the colors and add polka dots to make them go with your room! I have to say, they turn out pretty darn cute!

I have birthday bags for each of my children that I have hanging above my whiteboard in front of my room. I purchase the multipack colored (primary or neon) handle backs that you buy at your local Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Put a curling ribbon bow on each handle and stuff them with colored tissue paper. Then I attach a birthday horn and crazy straw coming out of the top of the bag. To the front of the bag I attach on of the DJ Hook cupcakes with each child's name and birthday written on them. Each child has a bag and I put them in order of their birthday. I just staple the back of the bag to the bulletin board strip at the top of my white board. This serves as a reminder to me but also as a great decorative birthday display. On the child's birthday I give them a bag just like the one hanging with a few little goodies inside.
ReplyDeleteI teach 4th grade, but I think younger kids would like this too. I send each student a birthday post card. I write a little message and decorate it with stickers. I mail it to their home address. They always come in the next day after they receive and thank me for their card. I do something similar at Christmas with Thank your post cards.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have gained a lot of ideas on it,and we have also enjoyed them.
